Barbara Turner
Neighborhood: Esplanade Ridge & Tremé
Architecture Style: Shotgun
A life long resident of New Orleans, Barbara Turner has lived in the Esplanade Ridge neighborhood since she was nineteen years old. In 1968, Ms. Turner’s parents purchased this historic house at 2335 Ursulines Avenue where they raised their five children.
Ms. Barbara, a retired school teacher, currently lives alone in her one story home. An active member of her community for many years, Ms. Turner is one of Esplanade Ridge’s most well-known residents.
During Hurricane Katrina, Ms. Turner, her mother, and two sisters all evacuated to Selma, Alabama, by way of New Rose, Louisiana. She returned home three months later to begin her rebuilding process and was deeply sadden by the devastation of the city. She sees the opportunity to work with Rebuilding Together New Orleans as a blessing and remains hopeful as she shares the exciting news with all of her neighbors.
