Rebuilding Together New Orleans has been in the news a lot over the last week for the event Fifty for Five when over a thousand volunteers from across the nation came to New Orleans to help rebuild 50 homes in the Gentilly neighborhood.

For the past six months, the Preservation Salvage Store has undergone great changes to improve our customers’ shopping experience.

We’ve come from all over the world, from as far away as the Middle East and as close as here, in the city of New Orleans.

For the past six months, the Rebuilding Together New Orleans’ Deconstruction Crew has hammered, sawed, built, and labored away in order to create a newly renovated addition to the Preservation Salvage Store.

This August 24-28th, Rebuilding Together New Orleans invites you to commemorate the fifth year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina with a renewal of a promise and a rebirth of a community. We are calling it Fifty for Five: 50 houses, five days, over 1,000 volunteers and a chance to make an unforgettable difference in the lives of 50 New Orleanian homeowners and their families.

On June 1, the first day of hurricane season, Congress allowed the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) to lapse.

August 24 to August 28 Rebuilding Together New Orleans will be commemorating the fifth anniversary of Hurricane Katrina with 50 for Five.
