Creative Use of Reuse: Jewelry Holder

Weezie Glasgow, AmeriCorps House Captain

This jewelry holder is made from a salvaged picture frame and a scrap of door screen. The project took about 10 minutes and included cutting, then stapling the screen to the backside of the frame. Sealing the frame with a clear coat of polyurethane to preserve the common chipped paint look adds character, and keeps potential flying lead paint particles under control. Other artistic options include painting the frame or the screen itself. Screen could be attached to a salvaged window sash in the same manner. I have found that this simple creation has drastically reduced my earring-choosing time, as well as brought a new artistic purpose to all that jewelry I never find the time to wear while swinging a hammer.
