Rebuilding Together New Orleans (RTNO) and AmeriCorps

Rebuilding Together New Orleans has been partnering with AmeriCorps since 2007. Each year a group of full-time volunteers have worked alongside the RTNO staff to implement programs, organize volunteers and work on houses. To learn more about these programs, please visit the AmeriCorps website.

AmeriCorps offers more than 70,000 opportunities annually for adults of all ages and backgrounds to serve through a network of partnerships with local and national nonprofit groups. Areas of service range from community development, providing youth mentoring and helping to protect the environment.

RTNO currently hosts AmeriCorps members from the following programs:

AmeriCorps – State Direct

RTNO operates a state direct AmeriCorps grant in partnership with the Volunteer Louisiana Commission. The VLC is a body that oversees all state formula dollars for the state of Louisiana. The commission is a volunteer body supported by dedicated staff within the office of the Lt. Governor.

AmeriCorps Direct – Minimum Time Member (300 Hours)

Starting in early June, Rebuilding Together New Orleans will enroll 5 members to undergo a summer service term. Its perfect for local high school students interested in learning about the construction industry or individuals that are looking to spend a summer giving back to families in need.

Available AmeriCorps Positions:

AmeriCorps House Captains (Rolling Enrollment):

AmeriCorps members serving with RTNO get to see first-hand how the work they’re doing positively impacts the community. The tasks House Captains complete improve the quality of life for all of RTNO’s homeowners, whether it’s through the addition of a wheelchair ramp to allow homeowner mobility and independence, or exterior weatherization repairs to lower utility builds and keep a home clean and healthy. They complete hands-on repairs as part of prep work or punch list for special projects, and complete repairs in volunteers’ absence. On project days, AmeriCorps House Captains work with volunteers from all backgrounds and skill levels to complete a variety of construction activities. Wherever possible, they teach and empower volunteers to learn new skills and safely implement them on the worksite.

AmeriCorps Homeowner Liaison (Rolling Enrollment):

Homeowner Liaisons are the direct line of communication between the community and our organization. We receive over 350 applications for service each year. Due to funding requirements for numbers and paperwork, this process can often be complex. Homeowner Liaisons walk each individual through the application and document collection process and maintain communication with each homeowner selected for services until their project is complete. Members are able to form relationships with New Orleans natives while directly improving their lives. When not in the office, members are in the community attending community events and meetings to promote our services and stay informed on or neighbor’s needs.
